Influencing Different People Differently

Featuring W. Steven Brown, C.P.A.E.

OVERVIEW

The main idea in this program is that each individual has unique style that creates a comfort zone of communication.  These communication patterns are represented in a model that describes four major styles or value systems.

People exhibit certain behaviors that give us insight into their particular style and how to best relate to them.  Once people have insight into their own style and the style of others, they can plan for how to best communicate with that individual.

The goal is to develop the value for all of the different styles and the sensitivity to each other's unique communication patterns and strengths.

OBJECTIVES

As a result of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the four major styles or value systems.

  • Determine their own style and the styles of others in the group

  • Recognize the clues to determining someone else's style

  • Understand what each style values in terms of social interaction, information, recognition and pacing

  • Describe the response of each style under stress

  • Plan effectively how to best communicate with each style

  • Understand how to develop their own versatility in relating to other styles

  • Value the importance of all styles in a team

FORMAT

This program is flexible depending on the amount of time dedicated to application work.  Here are three ways in which it can be facilitated:

  • Team development module for intact work group

  • Part of a leadership program

  • Stand alone communications module

Participants take an individual assessment on their style.
